  • Cotton fabric, Fat quarter

  • Matching thread

  • Elastic 3/8" (Buy Here) [14 inch doll cut 6.5", 18 inch doll cut 11"]

  • Sewing machine (Buy Here)

  • Pins or clips

  • Turning tool Alligator Forceps [Buy Here]

  • Iron and ironing board

  • Scissors or rotary cutter

Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions





Step 1: Prepare the Hem and Waistband


Press the bottom hem and waistband casing according to your pattern markings.

Stitch the hem in place, then stitch the waistband casing, leaving an opening for the elastic.

Step 2: Insert the Elastic


Using turning tool Alligator Forceps carefully feed it through the waistband casing. [This tool is so handy!]

Once the elastic is threaded through, Pin the ends in place.

Step 3: Sew the Back Seam


Fold the skirt in half with the right sides together, Pin in place.

Match the raw edges and stitch the back seam.

Step 4: Finish the Raw Edge


I used Overcasting stitch.

Finish the seam allowance using one of the following methods:

  • Zigzag stitch

  • Overcasting stitch

  • Serger

This helps prevent fraying and gives your skirt a clean, professional finish.



Step 5: Complete the Skirt (optional)


Press the seam allowance to one side and stitch it in place.
