Something berry cute is happening on the porch! Welcome back to the Porch Goose Sewing Series. For Episode 7, we’re turning our goose friend into the sweetest strawberry in the patch with a felt upside-down strawberry hat.

With bright red felt, tiny yellow stitched seeds, and a leafy green calyx, this silly little hat brings a fresh-picked dose of fun to your goose’s wardrobe. Whether your goose is greeting visitors, supervising the garden, or simply looking fabulous by the front door, this berry-inspired look is ready for its moment.

What You’ll Need


  • Strawberry hat pattern

  • Red felt for the Strawberry Front and Back

  • Green felt for the calyx

  • Yellow thread for the seeds

  • Matching thread for assembly

  • Scissors

  • Pins or sewing clips

  • Sewing machine or hand-sewing needle

  • Small piece of hook-and-loop tape, such as Velcro (optional)

Print and cut out the pattern pieces in the correct size for your goose.





Step 1: Prepare the Openings


Start with your cut felt pattern pieces.

 Sew a line of staystitching ¼" from the edge of the face opening to help it hold its shape.

Next,


cut the back opening where indicated on the pattern. Set this piece aside while you add the strawberry seeds.

Step 2: Stitch the Strawberry Seeds


Using yellow thread, sew running stitches over the seed markings on the Strawberry Front.

These little stitches create the strawberry seeds and add a cute contrast against the red felt.

it’s a small detail that gives this hat so much character!



Step 3: Sew the Front and Back Together



Place the Strawberry Front and Back with right sides together, keeping the stitched seeds on the inside. Align the edges and pin along the sides.

Sew the sides using a ¼" seam allowance, leaving the bottom opening unstitched.

Turn the strawberry right side out and gently shape the seams.

Step 4: Attach the Green Calyx


Turn your strawberry upside down. Position the green felt calyx around the opening.

Step 5: Topstitch for a Neat Finish


Press the seam allowance toward the top of the strawberry.

Step 6: Add an Optional Closure


If you’d like a closure, sew a small piece of hook-and-loop tape to the back opening.

This step is completely optional. I found that the strawberry hat works well without the Velcro, too!



Time to Dress Your Porch Goose! 🍓
