Let’s turn a sock into a cute little doll outfit! 🧦💕 In this tutorial, we’ll make leggings for a 14″ doll, then use the leftover sock section to create a matching tank top.

This outfit is perfect for cozy doll pajamas, and it’s a fun, affordable way to use those cute socks you find at the store!

Materials

  • A crew sock with at least 7.5″ above the heel, measured from the heel to the top of the cuff

  • Free leggings and tank top pattern for a 14″ doll

  • Fabric marking pen or chalk

  • Scissors

  • Sewing machine and thread

  • Optional: hand-sewing needle and face-mask elastic for finishing the neckline

Turn the sock inside out and lay it flat, smoothing out any wrinkles without stretching it.

The leggings pattern is a stitching guide, so you’ll sew directly along the traced line. No added seam allowance is needed for this 14″ doll pattern.

How to Make the Leggings

Step 1: Trace the pattern

Place the leggings pattern on the wrong side of the sock, aligning the pattern’s top edge with the top of the sock cuff. Trace around the pattern.

Step 2: Cut off the leftover section

Cut across the sock below the traced line, Save the section you cut off—we’ll use it for the matching tank top!

How to Make the Tank Top

Step 6: Cut the tank top

Take the leftover sock section you saved earlier and lay it flat. Use the tank top pattern to cut the shape and armholes.

Follow the pattern’s markings carefully so you don’t cut away more fabric than needed.

That’s it—your matching tank top is done! 💕

Optional: Finish the Raw Edges

The neckline and armholes are left unfinished with raw edges for this project.

If you prefer a finished edge, you can sew a whipstitch around them. For the neckline, you can also fold the edge over face-mask elastic and secure it with a whipstitch. Keep the elastic gentle enough that the top can still slip over your doll’s head.

I’m leaving mine simple this time—I’m getting a little lazy, lol! 😆
