There is something so satisfying about turning a simple idea into something real… something you can actually touch, use, and smile at.

For Episode 2 of my Happy Bankky Dollar Tree Craft Series, I’m sharing how I transformed two small wooden easels from Dollar Tree into the cutest little doll clothes rack for my craft room. And honestly? I love how it turned out.

This project is proof that you don’t need expensive materials to create something beautiful and functional.

🛠 Materials Used

  • 2 Collapsible Wooden Easel Sets (Dollar Tree)

  • Wood glue

  • Small brad nails

  • Drill

  • Hammer

  • Screws (included in kit)

Optional:

  • Sandpaper

  • Wood stain or paint

  • Clear sealant

Step 1: Gather Materials

You’ll need two collapsible Dollar Tree easels, wood glue, small brad nails, a drill, a hammer, and the screws included in the easel kit.

Step 2: Sort and Label Pieces

From each easel set, identify and label the parts:

  • A: The pointed legs

  • B: The thin crossbars with holes

  • C: The thicker horizontal bars

Set aside extra piece from the set (you’ll only need one for the top bar now, but save the other if you want to extend the rack later).

Step 3: Drill the Extra Hole

Take one B piece and drill an extra hole on the opposite end so it will align as the top bar between both sides.

Step 4: Mark the Side Bars

On each C piece (the thicker bars), measure and mark a line 1 inch from each end.

Step 5: Attach the Legs

Glue the A pieces (the legs) at a slight outward angle behind that 1-inch line on the C piece.

Position the B piece (the one with two holes) across the top of your two side frames. Insert screws through the holes and secure it in place—this will let it fold.

Step 7: Stabilize the Bottom

Take the remaining B piece and glue it across the bottom back of the rack for stability. Secure it with brad nails.

Step 8: Optional Extension

If you make two racks, you can connect them using the leftover piece for a longer rack.

💛 Why I Love This Project

What I love most about this piece is not just how cute it looks in my craft room…

It’s the feeling.

Taking something that costs only a few dollars and turning it into something useful and charming feels empowering. It reminds me that creativity isn’t about money — it’s about vision.

I can already imagine a little girl carefully hanging her doll dresses on this rack. That makes my heart happy.
